I totally agree with Patito, though it seems impossible to reduce the ever growing demand for paper, and the recycling process is still somewhat expensive. I also agree with FBO, about decorating living trees. I personally, in fact, find it even more beautiful - when they are iluminated being surrounded by all the natural environment (snow in this case). It gives a more 'Christmassy' feeling in my opinion.

You are right - Products and packaging should be made smaller and more recyclable - Forests should be protected - Trees should be allowed to grow into their full glory - I think it is more a shame that the biggest and most beautiful tree is chopped down for the White House every year

...yes..I agree with that on principle...but.....the number of trees cut down for Xmas is tiny compared to the numbers of them whacked to make paper products...book, newspaper and magazine publishing, copier paper, boxes and cartons and containers of all sorts, kitchen and bathrom products, burger wrappers....the volume is enormous, and though some of that is re-cycled most of it is just tossed...then there's the lumber industry, which consumes zillions of trees to produce tract housing, apartment buildings, and those tacky MacMansions some people think they have to have....I think there should be a word-wide moratorium on chopping down trees for any purpose...excpept for making barbeque....

Yes - This is beautiful - People should decorate living trees in their yards for Christmas instead of killing millions of trees every year just to have one in their homes for a couple of weeks and then just throw them out
