This is a wonderful photograph. It was included in 'The Family of Man,' curated by Edward Steichen for the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in 1955 and considered by many to have been the greatest photographic exhibit of all time. Elliot Erwitt was born in Paris, but his Jewish-Russian emigrant parents moved to the US in 1939 to escape the developing conflagration in Europe. After serving as a military photographer in Europe Erwitt joined the Magnum agency, a photo cooperative owned by its members, in the early 1950's and shot photos for them all over the world .
