A very good photo villat, do you know who the photographer was? The '88' butterflies are a widespread genus of about 30 species. They occur in the American tropics from Argentina all of the way north to deep into Mexico. They are small butterflies, but very colorful and most of them display an '88' pattern on their ventral hindwings. Current usage places them in the genus Diaethria or (sometimes) Callicore.
