Global warming, plastic recycling, and all of that aside, there ARE reasons to drink water from a bottle when your local water is contaminated or poor, too mineral laden, cut off due to emergency, etc. On the day to day side, we buy a case every so often because it is better to drink than soda or sweetened drinks and sometimes you just need to have a drink on the go. (And I've never found a travel bottle that doesn't leak, convey some strange taste to the water, etc.) Ideally, it should be unnecessary, but even here in the US, where people think potable water is a given, there are places where it still is not or not consistently so. Why does it have to be a "yuppie" thing? The people that I've known who use bottled water the most (and don't recycle their bottles) are not "yuppies" but others who would be better described as "poor" or "rednecks"... Too many people throwing labels around.

I think they meant 3 million tons of CO2, not 3 tons. Me, I drink beer, and it costs less than bottled water!

I am reminded of a promo effort by the Paris Municipality. They kept several brands of bottled water and alongside kept water in an unlabeled bottle and asked people to drink their favorite brand and sip the unlabeled as well and vote.Viola!the unlabeled got rave approvals. At the end it was revealed that the unlabeled bottle contained tap water that is piped to every home. The moral of the story is if the water you get piped almost for free is tested and proves good why bother with buying and wasting money besides the issues like pollution,Co2 etc.If we cannot get safe water then the government deserves the boot.

I won't comment on whether global warming is or is not occurring. I will state, however, that most climatologists who I have talked to will tell you that "global warming" is a misnomer. It is really about global climate change brought on by human actions. Rather than belabor the point about global warming, the real question is why should we waste our resources just to give big oil more money when we don't need to?
2008-08-17 08:52:13
Are you admitting here that you're stupid enough to pay for water that is probably not as pure or as safe as what comes from your tap?

It's funny, Some of you try to sound like experts and yet fail to post a source to these "facts"(why are these getting +'s?). Answer these question. What produces the most CO2?(You'll be surprised) Plants, The oceans, animals, volcanoes, or Humans? What uses up more energy? The making of the plastic bottle or re-cycling it? Just want to encourage some of you to do a little research.(Please post source)

What I'd like to know is why all of the U.S. bottled water drinkers are bitching about shelling out $4.00 per gallon of gasoline, but blithely pay $5.00 per gallon ($1.25 per quart = $5.00 per gallon) for water?
2008-05-19 20:59:31
lol what a fag. Why waste time arguing what's the cause of the warming, instead open your eyes think about what's gonna happen IF there's warming going on? People like you are so narrow mined, and people like you are the cancer of mankind that fucked rest of us up. I say we should ignore you people and better yet, hang those people to death. Hitler lost WW2 cuz he's one narrow minded idiot.

In the US alone we toss ( either into the trash or into a re-cycling bin ) two million ( that's 2,000,000 ) empty plastic water bottles per hour..that's per HOUR...that doesn't count the millions of other disposable containers that are tossed...soda, beer, juice, coffee, etc...
2008-04-15 08:23:16
Global Warming or not, why waste stuff? Instead of buying your over priced bottled yuppie water why not take that money and do something usefull like donate it to charities that help feed that kid eating off the floor in the picture on here, or any other of the 100's of good and worthwhile charities. It takes a ridiculous amount of water to make one bottle something like 4 to 1, uses lots of energy and for what? In countries where water supply isnt fit to drink fair enough but in the US? get real. I know its not just you, over here in UK its the same but I still cant understand why unless people have too much money and not enough empathy.

YO WHAT MEANS PRISTINE IT SAYS:"BOTTLE IT FROM SOME PRISTINE"??? PRISTINE IS TOWN IN KOSOVO, IN SERBIA!

Not True. Check your facts. Fact one rightwing radio lies.

It is hundreds of thousands, as the scientific literature will attest. About CO2 levels following warming- You're making an unwarranted assumption here, which leads the argument to be a straw man. You assume that in the past, temperature changes have ALWAYS been for the same reason, that CO2 is the only greenhouse gas, and that there aren't more complex interactions at work. This is blatantly wrong and simply ridiculous for anyone to believe. Other things, such as changes in the tilt of the earth's axis, can and do many times initiate the warming. However, this warming can then trigger the release of methane and CO2, which then leads to more warming. The sun has NOT been more active since the warming has started, new research has found no historical correlation between the solar cycle and the temperature, and there is extremely little to no correlation between years of high activity and years of warming (and vice versa). We are NOT in a cooling cycle. This is just ONE year which was colder than usual probably because of la nina.

Global warming is another BS hoax, just like 'the coming ice age' I heard so much about as a kid. Ridiculous tripe to take more of my money in the form of taxes.
2008-02-29 23:05:16
Now it's hundreds of thousands? Wow! Now that it's hundreds of thousands, then I'll have to believe in it! What about the fact that CO2 levels follow warming, not the other way around like Gore wants you to believe? What about the fact that the sun has been more active since the "warming" has started? What about the fact that we are now actually in a cooling cycle and the earth is now .5deg Cel cooler than at the height of the so called man-made global warming. Ah, this is when you change your wording to "Man-made climate change"
2008-02-29 22:08:53
There is no global warming. I said so. Therefor it is UTTERLY TRUE. BOO-YEAH!! Worship me or suffer the wrath of America!! DOUBLE BOO-YEAH!!
2008-02-29 19:47:06
gobal warming is pure al gore bs,it snowed the first time in recorded history in bagdad, look at the snow storms in the U.S. and china, and where is al gore? maybe hes froze somewhere hahahahahaha!
2008-02-29 15:57:44
Is actually a valid question. It would actually benefit the environment and save resources if we just stopped manufacturing plastic bottles and used recycled glass bottles.
2008-02-29 13:41:53
No, hundreds of thousands of scientists all saying the same thing did. Seems like a bunch of idiot bloggers and politicians got to YOU though.
2008-02-29 13:39:51
global warming....hahaha sounds like al gore got to this poor guy...
2008-02-29 13:32:27
I highly doubt it, but I won't bother with the reasons. Source?

Technology comes to the rescue. A new type of low maintenance water filter has been made with carbon nanotubes, which are just large enough to pass H2O water molecules and nothing larger. It uses only 1/4th the energy of desalinization, and gives you cleaner water than reverse osmosis, and in many cases, distillation, which can pass highly volatile and toxic chemicals. Once this filter is in large scale production, any brackish or salty water supply will be convertible to potable water. And with a couple drops of sea salt added to it, it will have all the trace minerals your body needs.

Cola doesn't come out of the tap. Though it would be kinda cool. Hot, Cold, and Cola.
2008-02-29 12:22:12
So whats the difference if people drink bottled coca-cola or bottled water ?
2008-02-29 08:31:08
"people"? maybe a few. The scientific community? never. You're the one who should wake up if you don't accept anthropogenic global warming.
2008-02-29 08:24:24
Petroleum products are sometimes used to manufacture the plastic bottles, but in my area the water really isn't fit for drinking. We have such a bad problem with calcium that you can get kidney stones over the years if you drink too much of it. Bottling water does use up a lot of energy resources that can be put to better use.
2008-02-29 08:14:08
global warming, lol! 30 years ago people were frighten about global cooling. come on! wake up!
2008-02-29 06:37:57
because by doing so you are unnecessarily polluting the environment and contributing to global warming.
2008-02-29 06:27:33
Why is it your business if I buy bottled water or not?
2008-02-29 05:27:22
Penn & Teller had a well made episode of "Bullshit" discussing the bottled water industry. I recommend it!
