At least you're honest about it A Bouts ;-)

I don't walk anywhere! And have the physique to prove it!

I most certainly agree with you about walking; I walk everywhere. I also power walk, and will take up Nordic walk...no more running for me since I fractured my ankle and got arthritis in my knees (too much hiking and running up hills). I hope to do the Camino pilgrimage in Spain in spring/summer 2010. Europe has such a good rail system that Europeans don't need a car; but the car rules in the US unfortunately.

I walk, and take buses and trains, occasionally fly. In my country, it is easy to be without a car, in the USA it is not. When I lived there, although I had a car, I used to walk everywhere, even beside the highways, and I cannot count the motorists who stopped and asked me if I wanted a lift, presuming that my car had broken down or - being a woman - that I had run out of gas. ;-) Once, a friend (an American) dropped me off in Washington DC and told me to call him at the end of the day to tell him where to pick me up. I did, and said I was in Georgetown. To this day, he does not believe that I walked from Capitol Hill to Georgetown. Why? It's 'nothing but a good stretch of the legs.'

I drive a 1995 Tacoma with 330,000 miles on it. And before that I had a 1984 Toyota Pickup. It finally died with 398,000 and I sold to a guy for $100.00. He fixed the head gasket and drove it for three more years around town. My next truck will be, you guessed it, another Toyota. So back to my question. "Why Is It Better?" A whole day has passed since I left my original comment and question. Do you have an answer or are you going to fly off the handle again to buy yourself some more time to think about it?

Less safety.

Somewhat of an excessive reaction to the comment of A Bouts who just MIGHT have referred to the "better looking" aspect of the picture rather than trying to prove anything else...

So, are you one of those driving huge Hummer, Excalibur, Nissan Titan, Cadillac Escalade? What are you trying to prove? That you are a lot richer than the rest of us? I bet you are also driving and talking on your cell phone not caring for all those small cars around you. Excuse me but in California this kind of attitude must end.

Less traffic congestion, less gas - less pollution ;-)

"Better looking than a huge SUV with one occupant" Why is it better?
