This insect is a member of the family Tettigoniidae. In the US and Canada they are known as "katydids" in England as "bush crickets" and also, in both areas are sometimes called "long horned grasshoppers". They are closely related to the Orthopteran family of grasshoppers but are usually readily distinguishable by their longer antennae. Several species of katydid also have frequent "pink" color phases with coloration very similar to the pink grasshopper recently posted here.
