Yep, your wisdom full me about your age...
Not much , but still...
That's the sad story of my file, I always miss just a little bit...
So if you ever need an opinion that's close to the truth, but never the whole truth, you can always count on me!
:)
No, patito. It's Willie Nelson alright that I'm talking about. Just something about him that I don't like. Not sure what it is. Ricky Nelson is ok, But only in small doses...
Am not surprised you folks never heard of Asleep at the Wheel...they only won about 9 Grammys..their latest album, Willie and the Wheel, features Willie Nelson..'course I reckon ya'll probably never heard of him either......but if you'd like to hear what some real old time Texas music sounds like, try this..enter 'youtube asleep at the wheel' in your search engine and listen to their rendition of the old Bob Wills tune Cherokee Maiden...
I'm in my early 60s and I've never heard of them. They must have played only in the towns of Hicksville, Texas and Bubba, Arkansas. Maybe even in Cowtown, Missouri; but most certainly not Motown ;-)
Anybody remember Dow Jones and the Industrials? Or Sherwin Williams and the Kem Tones ? How 'bout the old Austin band called Man Mountain and the Green Slime Boys? Or the all-girl band called the Child-Bearing Hips ? The best of the Old-Time-Austin bands were , of course, Asleep at the Wheel ( comin' right at ya' ) and Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys, famous across the Lonestar State for hits like "I'm Proud To Be An Asshole From El Paso" and their feminist anthem "Get Your Biscuits In The Oven And Your Buns In The Bed." Kinky has since retired from the music business ,entered politics, and ran against Rick "Good Hair" Perry in the last gubernatorial election.
