In her eighties, she was attacked by a man who broke into her home in Detroit, If I remember correctly, she managed to fight him off very well too, so she still had her courage!

Rosa Parks was also of Cherokee heritage as well as African American. Perhaps it was that part of her heritage that led to her calm bravery.

The crime for which Ms Parks was arrested was refusing to give up her seat on a city bus to a white passenger. She was 42 years of age at the time, and the incident led to a bus boycott by Black citizens of Montgomery which broke the back of the municipal transporatation service and resulted finally in its complete integration. A small but important victory in the long struggle for equal rights.
