You're right Patito. Costa Rica is the only country in the Americas that does not have an army. I went there in the 1960s - before tourism really took off. I don't remember too much about it (young...into parties...), except that it was lush and humid.

Costa Rica also has a remarkably stable and democratic government, a very good public health system, and a very high level of environmental consciousness. It's a great place to visit and is still very affordable.
