The statues are not actually "spiritual accomplishments", but cultural heritage. Spiritual accomplishments can't be destroyed by "pigness".

Taliban: destroying spiritual accomplishment with human pigness. can we make "pigness" a word?

Its tragic how human life is less important than stones... When the Taliban decided to destroy the statues, many agencies were willing to pay up to $20 millions to preserve the statues; but what about those being killed by 'mistake' or hunger or or or...

Egyptian historian al-Maqrizi, writing in the fifteenth century, attributes the vandalism [missing nose of the sphinx] to Muhammad Sa'im al-Dahr, a Sufi fanatic from the khanqah of Sa'id al-Su'ada. Not to a cannon ball. Some legends claim that the nose was broken off by a cannon ball fired by Napoléon’s soldiers and that it still survives, as do diverse variants indicting British troops, Mamluks, and others. However, sketches of the Sphinx by Dane Frederick Lewis Norden made in 1737 and published in 1755 illustrate the Sphinx without a nose.

How tragic! It was the Taliban, right? Sort of like the troops in WWI who used the Sphinx for target practice.
