Sure it's true what you say. Basically I have no special info about the history of painting neither in Islamic areas nor European's. But as much as I've generally learnt living in Iran, I do approve you're right.
It's nice, but great ? This is highly derivative....European painters were doing this kind of work in the 1600's.
Representational art in Islamic societies was handicapped for a long time by prohibitions on the representation of the human body. It's good to see they're opening up and nmaking progress, but they're still playing catch-up.
