Ooops...my guess was pretty far off..BUT..I bet if you factored in the value of the dollar against foreign curencies then and now ( very strong dollar then, very weak dollar now ) the prices would be a good bit more comparable..

Yes, gas was a lot less expensive then than now, but compared to wages of those times probably comparable to today's prices..in 1925 a college professor might make 4 or 5 thousand dollars a year..the typical wage earner made a lot less than that..
